5783 High Holy Days

We look forward to sharing the High Holy Days services with our Congregation B’nai Israel community! This year, we are delighted to offer in-person services in our Sanctuary, in addition to live-streaming options.  We hope and pray that after so much isolation and challenge, our entire Jewish community will once again have the opportunity to gather safely in person for those who wish.

We are honored to have guest Cantor Rebecca Garfein  join  Rabbi Doug Sagal on the Bimah leading our High Holy Day services.

Incorporated in 1922, Congregation B’nai Israel will joyously celebrate its centennial in 2022.  Special events are planned to mark this landmark milestone.  Rooted in the legacy of its founders, membership still includes multi-generational families, along with many others who have migrated to our area.

Watch video above and then read about our history in:  A History of Congregation B'nai Israel, The First Hundred Years.

Since 1922, Congregation B’nai Israel (CBI) located in Monmouth County, has served as a religious, cultural and educational synagogue for Jewish residents of the greater Red Bank area. Multi-generational and egalitarian, CBI is a place for prayer, spirituality, shared observance, Judaic learning and social mingling...a place to honor life-cycle events and celebrate Jewish holidays. A member of the conservative movement, CBI is dedicated to guiding our children and ourselves to appreciate the values, customs and history of our Jewish heritage, to live a life of mitzvot, to support Israel and to transmit the love of Judaism and pride in our Jewish identity to succeeding generations - L'Dor Va'Dor.

E-Torah from Congregation B’nai Israel

22 Av 5782

The Torah portions of the book of Deuteronomy contains some of the most famous and beloved passages in Judaism. The Shema is found in this book. The V’eahavta is found in this book.

Deuteronomy chapter 6 verses 5-7 read: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your might. Take to heart these instructions with which I charge you this day. Teach them to your children….”

The great Jewish mystic and Kabbalist Rabbi Elazar Ezkari lived in the town of Tzfat in northern Israel in the 1500’s. He wrote that if one teaches Judaism to another, that person has fulfilled the commandment of “teach them to your children”. BUT if one teaches that same lesson with joy and enthusiasm, then they have also fulfilled “love the Lord your God with all your soul and all your might”.

This is why my vision is that at CBI we strive to teach both children and adults joyfully, and with passion and enthusiasm.  A lesson taught with love, enthusiasm and passion penetrates deeply into the human heart.

Shabbat Shalom

Covid Updates as of June 1, 2022

June 1, 2022

Dear Congregation B'nai Israel Family,

As promised, the Covid Task Force and leadership have been monitoring the status of Covid-19 infection and transmission in our community.

At present, the CDC has placed Monmouth County, New Jersey in the Covid Community Transmission Level of ‘high.’ Recommended actions based on this level include wearing a mask indoors in public.

Our Mask Optional Policy remains in place. To comply with the CDC recommendations, and to keep each other safe, we encourage you to wear a mask in the building (preferably N95 or KN95).

For Onegs and Kiddushim, we will try to socially distance or, weather permitting, eat outdoors.
We thank you and wish you and your family good health.

Barbara Newman Rosen, CBI President
Dr. Joel Edman, Covid Task Force Chair
