SISTERHOOD
Congregation B’nai Israel (CBI) Sisterhood is a special group of women of all ages who meet to work together and learn together. Through Sisterhood’s programs you will make new friends and renew old ones. CBI Sisterhood is affiliated with the Women's League for Conservative Judaism, founded in 1918. Its purpose is to unite Conservative synagogue women's organizations into a body whose aim is the perpetuation of traditional Judaism. Women's League has 150,000 women in its seven hundred synagogue affiliates located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Israel.
Sisterhood programs support the community, the Religious School and the Synagogue. Sisterhood makes major financial contributions to the General Fund and the award-winning Dorothy L. Spiwak Library. In addition to our own Sisterhood dues, many Sisterhood programs also serve as fundraisers. Here are some of our programs:
- Nearly New Sale - This annual event provides a service to the community as well as raising money in support of the Synagogue.
- Purim Basket Sales - This annual event encourages Synagogue members to remember others, while helping raise money in support of our Synagogue. Members place orders for goodie baskets to be sent to friends, family, and teachers.
- Gift Shop - This Judaic specialty store, staffed by Sisterhood members, offers a wide variety of items right inside the Synagogue. These include tallitot, kipot, Havdalah and Shabbat candles, mezuzot, and holiday merchandise. Proceeds support the Synagogue.
- Pledge Dinner - This annual event is open to both members and non-members. The dinner is combined with a speaker or entertainment and women are asked to make a pledge or donation.
- School Holiday Celebrations - Sisterhood volunteers bring the holidays and Shabbat to the students of the Religious School with both the Holidays in the Classroom celebrations and the sponsoring of Sabbath dinners led by the students.
Sisterhood creates an environment for its members to:

- COMMIT to our Synagogue and children
- CONTRIBUTE to our Jewish community
