MAZAL TOV!

Congratulations to Brooke Kamin Rapaport and to her parents, long-time congregants Virigina & Arthur Kamin, on Brooke’s induction into the Rumson-Fair Haven High School Hall of Fame. Brooke is an independent museum curator and writer, a contributing editor to Sculpture Magazine, and former associate curator of contemporary art at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She served as guest curator at the Jewish Museum in New York for the recent exhibition - The Sculpture of Louise Nevelson: Constructing a Legend.

Brooke joins her brother, Blair Kamin, in Hall of Fame membership. They are the first siblings to be so honored. Blair is the Pulitzer Prize-winning architect critic of the Chicago Tribune.

Mazal tov also to Eric Lewin, Caitlin Waters, Laura Isanuk, and Jeff Sussman, CBI teenagers who are 4 of the 6 members of the 2008 Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Fed Challenge team. Sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank, Fed Challenge is a national competition consisting of presentations to the Fed on U.S. economic policy and recommendations for Fed action. This team was one of just 6 (out of the original 115 teams) to make it to the NY Federal Reserve District's final round. The fact that the majority of the RFH team's families are members of CBI is something to be proud of.

THANK YOU
To Nona Balaban, Barbara Meister, Jennifer Cohn, and Bonnie Cooper. Without their help the seders in the classroom would not have been possible. And to those who polished the Torah Silver for Pesach: Claire Keitelman, Gloria Landy, Gloria Meyer, Charlotte Rodetsky, Sandy Rosenbloom, and Sybil Scheinhartz.

ADULT EDUCATION
Are you interested in Adult Education at B’nai Israel?  If you would like to be on the Adult Education Committee and have a say in speakers, classes, and activities offered, please contact Susan Gonan or the synagogue office.

ENDOWMENT FUND
Our Endowment Fund is like an insurer of the future of Congregation B'nai Israel. It is also a vehicle for perpetuating your family name in the annals of our synagogue. Although Frank and Dora Siegfried, may their memory be for a blessing, contributed shares of Exxon stock back in 1984, we still think of and mention them today, 22 years later. There are many ways you can support the Fund. Please contact Joel Whitman or the synagogue office if you care to learn more about the Fund and how it has helped our shul over the past years.

GAN YELADIM’S IMA AND BABY PROGRAM

Gan Yeladim has begun an innovative program for children, ages 8 months to 14 months.  In addition to its Ima and Me, Preschool, and Kindergarten Enrichment programs, we have added an Ima and Baby Program headed by renowned music teacher, Adria Glass. Adria, a mother of two young children herself, is well known in the area for her expertise in teaching music for the young child in various preschools, including Gan Yeladim. She also has exhibited her musical talents on the Brookdale College musical stage. Adria’s ability to play her guitar, sing, and inspire participation, along with her warmth and enthusiasm will ensure mommy and baby many mornings of joyful involvement.  We are very excited about this new music and movement program. Your child will be surrounded by opportunities to learn and explore in an age appropriate environment. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please contact Gail Pierson, Director of Gan Yeladim, at 732-842-1800 ext. 209.

SICHAT ANASHIM
Sichat Anashim is a self-taught women’s study group, sponsored by the Sisterhood, currently meeting weekly in the library.  Meetings are Tuesday mornings, 10:30PM.  This self-led group welcomes new voices.  No previous experience necessary; just bring a desire to learn.  Contact Susan Gonen with any questions.

NEW YOUTH ACTIVITIES FUND
We now have a new fund that supports activities and special events for all the youth groups at CBI.  The groups are: Sunday Funday (Kindergarten-Grade 2); El Al (Grades 3-5); Kadima (Grades 6-8); and USY (Grades 9-12).

You can honor your child on a birthday or special occasion by making a contribution in his or her name to the Youth Activities Fund. Contributions may be sent to the CBI office by mail or you can come in during office hours to make your contribution in person.

CONGREGATION MEMBERS HELP START NEW JEWISH HERITAGE MUSEUM
Two of the three incorporating officers of the new Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County are members of our congregation: Jean Klerman and Michael Steinhorn.  (The third incorporating officer is Charlotte Kruman, who resides in Rumson but is a member of another synagogue).  Klerman and Kruman are serving as co-Presidents, and Steinhorn as Treasurer.

The Museum will be housed in the old Levi Solomon Barn (c1800) in West Freehold.  Through exhibits, programs and publications, the Museum hopes to foster public awareness of the history of the Jewish residents of Monmouth County and celebrate their contributions to the community.  Anyone interested in joining in this endeavor should contact Jean Klerman or Michael Steinhorn.  For further information, check out their website.

PHONE TREE
Our CBI phone tree is up and running.  Please
, contact the office if you want to be advised of deaths in the congregation via this communication method.  We will use the phone tree to the entire congregation to announce upcoming events, programs and services.

If you’d like to opt out of this notification method, just contact the office and ask to have your name removed from the list.
